CORD leader Raila Odinga slams court verdict on Wetangula election

CORD leader Raila Odinga has condemned a court ruling that overturned the election of Moses Wetangula as Bungoma senator.

“Hakukuwa na haki. Ilikuwa siasa tu. Wameharibu muda wetu bure tukikaa kortini. (There was no justice. It was all politics. They have wasted our precious time in court.),” said Raila, who then made reference to the Biblical story of Jesus Christ who was led to the top of the mountain and asked by Satan to kneel down before him and the whole world would be his.
“Kama Yesu tunasema shetani aende mbali. (Like Jesus we say Satan should go far from us.) We cannot kneel before anybody. We won’t go to any other Kenyan court but the people’s court, who voted for our coalition and Wetangula,” said Raila in a thinly veiled attack on the Jubilee government.
But Musikari Kombo who filed the petition cut the forlorn figure of an underdog in the courtroom during the hearing of the case.
Kombo who sat at the benches was flanked by his wife and no other politician in tow, unlike Senator Wetangula who had the entire CORD brigade by his side.
Hitting out at CORD leaders for going around the town causing ‘unnecessary tension’, Kombo distanced himself from being prodded by the Jubilee Government and denied being their project, as the rival coalition leaders claimed.
“Did you see any Jubilee leaders with me in court? I was alone,” he said
